Slack Integration

Connect Slack to get your WebWork notifications in Slack, use WebWork commands and the WebWork AI assistant, run standups and reports in your channels, and import your team from Slack.

Connect Slack

Owners, Executive Managers and Team Managers can connect Slack.

  1. In WebWork, open Integrations, find Slack under Communication and click Enable.
  2. Slack shows what WebWork can access. Choose your Slack workspace and click Allow. Only the person connecting approves this, once. Teammates don’t need to approve anything.
  3. You return to WebWork’s Slack page.

Connected before our latest update? Open Integrations → Slack → Settings, click Reinstall and allow the new permissions to get notifications in direct messages and private channels.

Import your team

On WebWork’s Slack page, open the Members tab, select members and click Import. Each member gets an invitation, and because their WebWork email is their Slack email, their accounts match automatically.

Under Sync Settings, turn on auto-sync to invite new Slack members automatically, and auto-remove to remove members who are deactivated in Slack.

Get WebWork notifications in Slack

  1. Open Settings → Notifications. A Slack column appears once Slack is connected.
  2. Turn on Slack for the notification types you want and click Save changes. They arrive as direct messages from the WebWork bot.
  3. Owners and Executive Managers can send a notification type to a channel instead: open Deliver to and choose a channel. The workspace Owner also sees the private channels they belong to, and WebWork adds its bot to the chosen channel automatically. Other private channels appear once the WebWork app is added to them.

Notifications reach you when your WebWork and Slack accounts match by email. Use the same email in both, or ask your manager to import you from Slack.

Add WebWork to a channel

In Slack, click the channel name, open Integrations, click Add an app and add WebWork. Or type @WebWork in the channel and click Invite them.

Commands and WebWork AI

/webwork help lists the commands. /webwork tasks shows your tasks, /webwork standups and /webwork holidays list your workspace’s standups and holidays, and /webwork create standup sets up a standup (Owners and Executive Managers).

Ask anything with /webwork_ask, by mentioning @WebWork, or in the app’s Messages tab. WebWork AI answers from your workspace data, according to your role.

Chat automations

Birthday messages and daily or weekly reports: Settings → WebWork AI → Chat automations (Owners and Executive Managers). Choose the channel and the time.

Standups are set up under Tools → Standups, and holiday greetings under Time Off → Holidays.

Disconnect

On WebWork’s Slack page, open the menu and click Unlink Integration, or remove the WebWork app in Slack.

Troubleshooting

  • No direct messages: check that Slack is on for that notification type and saved, and that your Slack email matches your WebWork email.
  • A private channel is missing from Deliver to: add the WebWork app to that channel.
  • Channel notifications stopped: if the channel was deleted or archived, WebWork switches that notification back to direct messages. Choose a new channel.
