How to make hours billable?
To mark hours as billable, you first need to activate the feature. To do so:
- In your dashboard, go to Settings > Features
- Turn on the toggle next to Billable Hours under Finance
Marking a project as billable
To mark hours as billable, you must first mark a project as billable. To do this for an existing project:
- Go to Projects > Projects
- Click the name of the project you want to edit or click the three-dot icon under Actions and click Edit
- In the Project Details tab, enable the Billable toggle
This will make all contracts within that project as billable, allowing you to set an hourly rate in Projects > Contracts. To learn more about contracts, check out our Contracts help article.
Apart from the Owner, Executive Managers can also set a project as billable if given permission. To do that you need to give them permission to workspace finances.
To grant Executive Managers permission to set projects as billable:
- Go to People > Members
- Click on the member you want to give permission to
- Go to Billing and enable the Give access to finances toggle
This permission will give them access to the Finance section of your workspace, including setting projects as billable, show them member rates, project budgeting, and amounts.
Three ways to set hourly rates
WebWork offers three ways to set hourly rates for your team. These are:
If both project and member hourly rates are available, you can choose which one to use for each contract on the Contracts page. Alternatively, you can also set a custom rate for each contract.
Viewing earned amounts
After enabling billable hours, WebWork will calculate earnings based on the set billable hourly rate and number of tracked hours. You can view this data in several places, like the Timesheet, Payroll, and Finance reports.
