Google SSO Configuration

Available on Plus and Premium plans. Only the Workspace Owner can enable SSO (single sign-on).

Overview

Google Single Sign-On (SSO) is a secure and convenient authentication method that allows users to log in to WebWork using their Google Workspace accounts. By enabling Google SSO, organizations can centralize user access management, improve security, and provide a seamless login experience.

This article outlines the functionality of Google SSO in WebWork and explains how users interact with the login process once it’s configured.

What is Google SSO?

Google SSO is an identity federation method that allows users to authenticate with WebWork using Google Login. Instead of managing separate usernames and passwords for WebWork, users can access the platform using their existing Google accounts. This is especially useful for teams that already use Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) for email, calendar, and document management.

Key benefits include:

  • Simplified Login: Users authenticate with one click using their Google accounts.
  • Stronger Security: Leverages Google’s secure authentication infrastructure, including 2-Step Verification.
  • Centralized Control: Admins can manage access using Google’s organizational policies.

How It Works in WebWork

Once Google SSO is enabled for your workspace, the login flow adapts in the following ways:

1. Login with Google Button

Users can click the “Login with Google” button on the WebWork login page. This redirects them to the Google login screen. Once authenticated, they are instantly logged in to WebWork.

2. Email-Only Login Flow

Alternatively, users can enter their email on the login page. If the email belongs to a domain authorized for Google SSO, they are automatically redirected to the Google login screen without needing to click a button.

Password Login Disabled: When Google SSO is active, users can no longer log in using a password. This prevents bypassing the configured authentication policy.

Additional Configuration

  • Verify Domain: Ensure your organization’s email domain matches the domain registered in Google Workspace. For example, if your team uses @companyname.com, this domain must be active in Google.
  • Save Settings: Any changes you make will apply immediately. Users will be directed to authenticate through Google on their next login.
